Central North Swindon Parish Council is proud to announce a brand-new, state-of-the-art outdoor gym at the popular Rodbourne Rec in Ferndale. This vibrant addition to the local landscape represents a significant investment in the community’s long-term health and wellbeing.

The project, which was finalized in early January, is the result of months of meticulous planning by your Ward Councillors and the Leisure & Recreation Committee. The facility was made possible through Councillor’s Ward Allowance funding, championed by Ferndale Ward Councillors Ana Fernandez, James Yeowell, and Sunny Patel.

The project was expertly delivered by the Swindon-based specialist contractor, Harlequin Group, with construction completed this week. Renowned for high-quality sports and fitness installations, the team worked throughout the past week to bring the vision to life.

“While we work all over the country installing sports and play equipment, projects in our local area are always extra special to us,” said Nikola Andrews, Director of Harlequin Group. “We are delighted to have been appointed by the Parish Council to create this excellent facility. We’re helping to improve the town we live in and creating outdoor spaces for our own community.”

“I am delighted to share that the outdoor gym equipment is finally being installed,” said Councillor Ana Fernandes (Ferndale). “These facilities will be free to use and accessible at any time of the day. This initiative reflects our shared commitment to health, wellbeing, and an active lifestyle for all. I first raised this request through the Parish Council several months ago. With the dedication and support of my fellow Councillors and the wider team, this vision has become a reality. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved from the Parish and partner organisations. Together, we have delivered something truly valuable for our community.”

The new gym provides a fantastic, free-to-use space that encourages residents to swap the indoor gym atmosphere for the benefits of the fresh air. Designed with inclusivity in mind, the site features a versatile range of equipment suitable for:

  • Beginners looking to start their fitness journey.

  • Seasoned athletes seeking a high-quality outdoor workout.

  • Residents of all abilities looking to improve their mental and physical health.

CNSPC remains deeply committed to enhancing public facilities that support the welfare of all residents. The Parish Council warmly encourages everyone in the local area to visit Rodbourne Rec and make full use of this vital community asset.
