Play is a vital part of every child’s development. It helps them to explore and understand the world around them, supports learning and growth, and encourages social interaction. Ensuring that all children have the opportunity to play is one of the most valuable ways we can support their wellbeing and development.
Central Swindon North Parish Council is pleased to announce that work has now commenced on a brand-new inclusive play area at Pembroke Gardens in Moredon, designed to enable children of all abilities to enjoy active play together.
The new Rodbourne Cheney Play Area has been made possible thanks to the commitment of local ward councillors Paul Exell, Mick Lucas, and Ian Edwards, alongside the dedication and advocacy of community group Mums on a Mission, and Becky Maddern from Pipa Play.
Councillor Paul Exell welcomed the development, stating: “My ward colleagues and I have worked for five years to raise funds, consult with residents, and carefully plan this new play area. It’s fantastic to finally see all that hard work and collaboration come to fruition, as the project begins to take shape.”
Councillor Kevin Small, Chair of the Parish Council, added: “I’m really pleased to see the new play area at Pembroke Gardens progressing well. This has been a long-standing project for the Parish Council, and full credit goes to the three ward councillors who have contributed their ward allowances over several years to fund its development. This play park will be a wonderful new asset for the area and highlights our Parish’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, inclusive facilities for our community. We are also hugely grateful to Mums on a Mission for their involvement and support. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with groups like them to ensure the best for our parishioners.”
Mums on a Mission and Pipa Play have been instrumental partners throughout the project, working closely with the Parish Council from the outset. Their insight and advice have helped shape the planning, design, and implementation of the play area.
Anna Bird of Mums on a Mission, said: “It was brilliant to see the refurbishment work beginning at Pembroke Gardens. The in-ground trampoline is a great size and, unlike many others, is wheelchair accessible. The inclusive roundabout is also one of our favourite designs. The addition of sensory play panels, a nest swing, and a multi-play unit with a sloped walkway and handrails will make this an outstanding accessible play park. We’re so excited for it to open and can’t wait to bring our children to enjoy it!”
The installation is scheduled for completion by 24th October, and the Parish Council encourages local families to enjoy this excellent new facility once open.
