Guidance for cyclocross riders
Cyclocross is a high-risk activity, and accidents may happen without outside interference Riders should be aware of this and take full responsibility for their own actions.
Before using the cyclocross course, it’s essential to understand and adhere to our rules and regulations. Please respect other users and the surrounding environment by following all posted signs and instructions.
All riders must report to reception to sign in before riding on the cyclocross, and sign out before they leave.
Under 11’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
The cyclocross course is one-way only.
Choose the right bicycle:
A cyclocross-specific bike is designed for off-road racing and features a lightweight frame, wider tire clearance, knobby tires for traction, and disc brakes for reliable stopping power. Cyclocross bikes typically have drop handlebars like road bikes but with more clearance for mud and obstacles.
Riders with mountain-bikes or gravel bikes may also ride our cyclocross course.
All bicycles should be in good working order and have working brakes.
Safety Gear:
Wearing appropriate safety gear is crucial when riding cyclocross. Riders should wear a helmet, gloves, and moisture wicking clothing suitable for the weather conditions.
Clipless pedals, such as SPD, and compatible cycling shoes with recessed cleats are recommended. Shoes should allow for you to get off your bike to navigate obstacles, and walk or run at times. Do not use road-cycling shoes.
Sports glasses are recommended to protect your eyes from debris, branches, and glare.
Start Slow:
If you’re new to cyclocross or unfamiliar with the specific layout, start with a slow pace to familiarize yourself with the track’s features and flow. Gradually increase your speed and confidence as you become more comfortable navigating the course.
Cyclocross courses vary in terrain, including grass, dirt, mud, gravel, and pavement. Adjust your riding technique and tire pressure accordingly to maintain traction and control.
Cyclocross courses often include barriers that riders must dismount and carry their bikes over. Approach barriers with caution, dismount smoothly, and remount quickly to minimize time loss.
Be prepared for technical sections such as off-camber turns, steep descents, or muddy areas. Maintain control of your bike and choose the best line to navigate these obstacles efficiently.
Respect Other Riders:
Cyclocross courses are shared spaces used by riders of varying skill levels and ages. Be mindful of other users and yield to riders who are moving faster or have the right of way. Avoid sudden stops or unpredictable movements that could cause collisions or disrupt the flow of traffic on the course.
The following are prohibited on the cyclocross at all times:
No Smoking or Vapes

No Chewing Gum

No Soft or Fizzy Drinks

No Dogs or Other Animals

No
Alcohol

By following these guidelines and practicing good etiquette, you can make the most of your time on our cyclocross course while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for yourself and others.
Have Fun and Experiment:
Above all, riding cyclocross should be an enjoyable experience. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different lines, techniques, and speeds to find what works best for you. Challenge yourself to improve your skills with each lap and celebrate your progress along the way.
